Death By Recycling
Friday, May 21, 2010
This morning I stopped at the end of the driveway to drop off my recycling. I had just picked up the bin when a big brown and white dog came out of nowhere and jumped up on me. I screamed and came very close to throwing a week’s worth of newspapers into the air. Once I got my heart rate back under control, I was glad for the pre-event stress test. Now I know that my heart can take it.
The dog-defibrillator experience made me realize that I’m probably wound really tightly today. Maybe a lot of us are. A great thing to remember at times like this is to have patience. The YMCA has done a fantastic job of organizing this event, and it’s going to be great. AND there are going to be snags and mix ups and confusion…AND…we’re going to have to wait. My swim wave hits the water over an hour after the start of the race. That’s the nature of a triathlon. This is the only “first” triathlon we’ll ever have. Let’s take a deep breath and enjoy it. It will do our hearts good.
