Hares vs. Turtles
Friday, May 14, 2010
I may have mentioned that my Tri Class is called the Turtles. We chose that name because we’re not always the speediest racers, but we finish the course, and as we know, “finishing is winning.” Not to be outdone, Beth’s other Tri Class named themselves the Hares. I agree it’s not very creative, and if you’re familiar with the fable by Aesop, not very auspicious either. However, they didn’t consult me, so they’re on their own. Anyway, the Turtles have worked hard, and we’re ready for our first Tri. Here are some of the hardships we’ve endured:
- Beth saying "if you can talk, you’re not working hard enough" (I think she finally fgured out that I can ALWAYS talk)
- Bike chain problems
- Those ear on your arm drowning drills
- Endless hills around Pineland
- Beth blowing that whistle
- Spinning to River Dance
- Singing and Ya Hooing by certain team members who should focus on pedaling
- Beth pining away for Daylight Savings Time
- Rebecca the substitute torture (I mean teacher)
- Beth telling us to hurry up with the transition
It is all these hardships and many more that have made us the turtles we are. You will see us on race day, and don’t be surprised to hear someone say, “Though you be swift as the wind, I will beat you in a race." Go Turtles!!
