The Casco Bay Branch's Wellness Center offers fitness pursuit's balance through many facets of exercise. The facility prides itself in making exercise and the pursuit of better health, accessible to all levels whether it is free weight training or resistance programs using top of the line Cybex machines, or flexibility and balance conditioning tools like the BOSU, bands, and stability balls.
The Casco Bay Branch offers family-friendly group exercise classes, encouraging a healthy lifestyle from an early age.
Children ages 8 to 12 are welcome in family-friendly classes as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Children ages 12 to 14 are welcome to attend any class with an adult. Children over age 14 can participate in all group exercise classes unsupervised. Check the group exercise schedule for family-friendly group fitness class times. Group exercise classes are available for members seven days a week and you do not need to register for them. The Trainers and Instructors at the Casco Bay Branch look forward to meeting all exercisers and helping them along their personal fitness path.

The assessment is comprised of a battery of eight tests which evaluate body composition, cardio respiratory endurance, flexibility, muscle strength and endurance. This provides information on an individual's fitness status and can be used in health enhancement, as well as setting future goals for training.

The Casco Bay Branch offers non-medically supervised exercise programs for individuals with known heart disease who have already participated in either a Phase II or III cardiac rehabilitation program and/or meet certain medical qualifications. Individuals who have not participated in a Phase II or III program are strongly urged to do so; however, medical consent from you primary care physician will also be acceptable to join the YMCA's Phase IV program. New members to the program will meet with our Fitness Specialist who has a degree in Exercise Physiology. All participants will be asked to provide the Fitness Specialist with the results of their most recent post-event treadmill evaluation, as well as sit down and discuss goals. The Living Well with Chronic Conditions workshop consists of one introductory session followed by a series of six weekly classes. It was developed at Stanford University and has been offered at hundreds of locations throughout the United States and in 15 other countries. If you have conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, breathing problems, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and many others, this workshop can help you feel better, take charge of your life and do the things you want to do. You'll get the support you need, find practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue, discover better nutrition and exercise choices, understand new treatment choices and learn better ways to talk with your doctor and family about your health. The classes meet weekly for two and a half hours under the guidance of trained volunteer leaders with health conditions themselves. You will learn to set your own goals and make a step by step action plan to improve your health and your life.
