In a state known for its RUGGED NATURAL BEAUTY, it's time for a race that caters to the RUGGED RUNNER ready to move beyond the marathon. Come celebrate Memorial Day in a beautiful rural setting at MAINE'S MOST CHALLENGING RACE. The race course is a 25 kilometer (15.5 miles) off-road roller coaster on well-maintained trails that wind their way through 3,000 acres of forests and pastoral farmland. The trails are 12-16 ft wide, XC ski trails with mainly grass or gravel surfaces. 50-K participants will complete two laps of this loop course. All runners will receive a post-race meal ticket and T-shirt. All 50km finishers will receive a one-of-a-kind cow bell. In the spirit of Memorial Day, there will be a post-race BBQ with music. 27th Annual Peaks to Portland Swim - July 19, 2008
The Greater Portland YMCA is proud to present the 27th Annual YMCA Peaks-to-Portland Swim, the 2.4 mile swim from Peaks Island to the East End Beach. This swim provides an opportunity for swimmers to challenge their physical and mental abilities, while at the same time raising money for the Cumberland County YMCA's Annual Support Campaign, providing needed financial assistance for youth, adults and families.
The 27th Annual YMCA Peaks-to-Portland Swim will be held on Saturday, July 19th, 2008 at approximately 8:30 am, with an alternate date of Sunday, July 20th, 2008. In the case of poor weather or fog, the YMCA may impose a 1 hour delay for the start of the event
All participants must qualify by swimming one mile in 32 minutes and 30 seconds or less at their local YMCA or other applicable pool. Qualifying swim times require a witness' signature (coach, aquatic director, or certified lifeguard). This is due no later than June 13th. Swimmers who successfully completed either the 2006 or 2007 YMCA Peaks-to-Portland swim do not need to do a qualifying swim. Download the form here.
Registration information will be mailed to 2007 swimmers early March. Please return your registration by March 31st to ensure you get in! Registration will open to the public April 7, 2008. This event is limited to 175 participants, once we reach the maximum number of swimmers registration will close. There is no waiting list for this event.
