Impacting the Community - Casco Bay Branch

1 in 5 members receive some level of financial assistance at the Casco Bay Branch, totaling $198,793 last year

Serving all incomes, ages & abilities:
The Casco Bay Branch serves more than 500 individuals every day, seeing more than 15,000 visits very month; regardless of background, faith or income. Our promise to the community is that we will serve everyone, regardless of ability to pay. During our 2009 fiscal year, we provided $167,793 in financial assistance for memberships, programs, year-round preschool, and summer camp. We also provided another $31,000 in support of our Adaptive Services program, a zero-barrier program that is open and accessible to everyone in our community. This year we anticipate that the total number will approach $221,000.

Building strong families & communities:
The YMCA is dedicated to serving the families of our community. Our Prime Time program in particular is designed to keep both children and their parents healthy in spirit, mind, and body – making it as easy as possible for parents to find the time to focus on their own health while knowing that their children are in a safe and nurturing program. Families are also encouraged to participate together in family swims, programs such as family sports mix, and our special events such as Health Kids Day. Last year we awarded more than $58,215 in financial support for 484 family memberships. We fully expect to match that number again this year.

Providing meaningful youth programs:
From full day child care to summer camp to swim team, and more, the YMCA provides a wide range of programs for children of all ages. 150 children on the Stripers swim team learn not only the skills involved with competitive swimming, but also how to work toward an individual goal in a team setting, the value of hard work, and camaraderie. 38 children receive support to participate on the team, totaling more than $8,466.

Our preschool program provides a safe environment for children to grow and explore. We awarded nearly $34,553 last year, meaning that nine families did not have to choose between work and quality child care. This is nearly triple the amount from the prior year.
