29th Annual Peaks to Portland Swim

Registratons for the 29th Annual Cyrus Hagge/YMCA Peaks to Portland Swim are now open!

For 28 years dedicated athletes have been making the 2.4 mile swim from Peaks Island to East End Beach in Portland in support of the Cumberland County YMCA.  The swim provides an opportunity for swimmers to challenge their physical and mental abilities, while at the same time raising money for the Cumberland County YMCA's financial assistance programs, which ensures that everyone will be able to access the programs and services the Y provides, regardless of their ability to pay.

The 29th annual swim will be held on Saturday, July 24th, 2010, starting on Peaks Island at around 8:30 am.  We welcome new and returning swimmers to this event, but spaces are limited, so sign up early!  All new swimmers must qualify for the event by swimming one mile in 32 minutes 30 seconds (or less) at their local YMCA or other pool.  Swimmers who successfully completed either the 2008 or 2009 Peaks to Portland swim do not need to submit a qualifying swim time.  In 2009, the first swimmer to cross the finish line did it in 46 minutes, 11 seconds, and the last swimmer crossed the finish line at around 1 hour 40 minutes.
