Childcare

It is the philosophy of the Cumberland County YMCA that childhood should be a time of fun, warmth, security, exploring, and discovery. All of our youth programs provide children with an atmosphere that encourages social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and development of the child as a whole.

Childcarechild care

The YMCA builds strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.

We work to ensure that kids participating in our programs are interacting with peers and positive role models and are having fun while building their self-esteem and social skills through a variety of organized enrichment activities and free play.

Our basic goals are:

  • To provide a safe, caring, nurturing environment for children;
  • To provide an environment where children are active learners, make choices, have responsibility for their actions and understand limits.
  • To build a trusting relationship between parents, children, and staff where there is mutual respect and frequent communication.
  • To provide an environment that fosters trust and honesty.

By choosing to send your children to programs at the YMCA, you are recognizing the importance of instilling the Y’s core character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in your children.

We Want to Hear Your Ideas for After School Enrichment Programs!

The Greater Portland YMCA is exploring new ways to provide local youth with after school enrichment programming right here at the YMCA.

What type(s) of things would you like to see us offer and why? What age group(s) could benefit from such programming? What would make you more likely to enroll your child(ren) in such programming?

We really want to design our programs to meet the needs of the community and our members, so your feedback is truly invaluable.

Think creatively and all suggestions are welcome! Please contact the YMCA’s Child Care Director, Kerry Salvo, with your ideas. She can be reached at ksalvo@cumberlandcountyymca.org or 207-874-1111 ext. 116.
