Well-being means a healthy spirit, mind, and body. YMCA enhancement programs stress the value of prevention through recreation, high quality exercise programs and good health habits. YMCA health and fitness programs encourage active living and personal fulfillment.

Wellness Programs

The Greater Portland YMCA's Wellness Center offers fitness pursuit's balance through many facets of exercise. The facility prides itself in making exercise and the pursuit of better health, accessible to all levels whether it is free weight training or resistance programs using top of the line Cybex machines, or flexibility and balance conditioning tools like the BOSU, bands, and stability balls.

Our many Group Fitness classes are available seven days a week and you do not need to register for them. The Trainers and Instructors at the Greater Portland YMCA look forward to meeting all exercisers and helping them along their personal fitness path.

Join a fun group class with strengthening, cardio, quickness, flexibility, and relaxation activities to “re-YOUTH-enate” your life. The class will help to rebuild your body and confidence, so you can lead a more active life and feel more YOUTH-ful.

Girls Basketball Strength & Conditioning

Girls' High School basketball players can prepare for their 2010-2011 season with a Strength & Conditioning circuit.  This class will incorporate sports-specific plyometrics, power development and injury prevention exercises, along with speed, agility, core and strength drills in order to prepare for their upcoming season.

Prenatal Water Fitness

Designed for the before and during pregnancy. This class will reward you with incredible wellness benefits for you and your baby. Safe exercise during pregnancy increases flexibility, improves recovery after childbirth, and improves emotional well-being. Both land and water will be used.

Fitness Assessment Testing

The assessment is comprised of a battery of tests which evaluate body composition, cardio respiratory endurance, flexibility, muscle strength. This provides information on an individual’s fitness status and can be used in health enhancement.

Now you can sign up for 1–on–1 instruction with a trainer or sign up with a friend and workout together.  Begin any time and start achieving results.  Work with a professional who will motivate and assist you in developing an individual fitness plan geared to your specific goals and schedule.

The Train Smart 3-Pack ($110) is a great way to get started with one of the YMCA’s Certified Personal Trainers. It includes the Fitness Assessment, plus two personal training sessions.

The Coach Approach ($225) includes 2 people for 3 one-hour sessions, so you and a friend can work out together.
